The illustrator makes the pictures in a book. Blah, blah, blah.

An illustrator can paint, draw, take photographs, or other artistic processes to make pictures for books. Talk about the different ways you can make pictures.

Pictures and books are sometimes as important as the stories Pictures and books are sometimes as important as the stories. The way the pictures are made can represent the illustrator’s feelings, thoughts, and ideas about the words on the page. Do you think that the pictures in books are important? Would you enjoy books as much if they did not have pictures?

Some illustrators can be the author also Some illustrators can be the author also. This means that they write the words and make the pictures for the story. This is a picture of Eric Carle.

Eric Carle is the author and illustrator of many books. The Very Hungry Caterpillar The Very Clumsy Click Beetle The Mixed Up Chameleon The Very Quiet Cricket The Very Lonely Firefly The Grouchy Ladybug The Very Busy Spider The Tiny Seed Pancakes Pancakes And many others Does the same person have to write the words and make the pictures in a book?

In some books, Eric Carle is only the illustrator. Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What do you Hear? Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What do See? Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What do you See? Why Noah chose the Dove And many others Have you ever seen any of these books?

Eric Carle likes to illustrate animals and insects. If you were an illustrator, what would you like to make pictures of? Why?

Eric Carle’s pictures look different than other people’s because he paints on tissue paper with acrylic. Then he cuts them out and glues the pieces together to make his animal characters. Have you ever seen any artwork that looks like this? Have you ever read an Eric Carle book? Do you like these pictures?
