Safety Update First Quarter FY 2017 Operations, Planning, and Safety Committee February 15, 2017

Introduction Capital Metro sets annual goals for vehicle and passenger accidents per contractor Vehicle accident goals for total and preventable accidents Disincentives in the contracts for failure to meet the goals Action plans required to address accident trends Accidents are tracked by severity and accident cause Severity stable compared to FY 2016 Accident frequency rate increasing

Preventable Accidents A preventable accident is one in which the driver failed to exercise every reasonable precaution to prevent the accident. This is irrespective of whether or not there is property damage or personal injury, the extent of the loss of injury, to whom it occurred and the location of the accident. Source: National Safety Council A collision is any contact with another vehicle, object or person. When a Capital Metro vehicle makes contact with another vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist, animal, road debris or any other obstruction, etc. it must be reported and investigated.
