English Language Part 1 : Download a Specification http://qualifications.pearson.com/en/qualifications/edexcel-a-levels/english-language-2015.html Part 2 : Making Notes Your task is to undertake some internet research into language change. You should use the internet to find out: Some of the ways in which language can change over time Some of the reasons language may change over time You could present this as two spider diagrams on A4 paper. You could use the following links to help: http://grammar.about.com/od/il/g/Language-Change.htm http://www.bl.uk/learning/langlit/sounds/changing-voices/ Part 3 : Exam Style Questions Find an article that you find interesting in a newspaper or magazine. This could be a feature, review of a restaurant, book, or car. Alternatively, you might find an extended piece of writing in a blog. You may be able to find an article of interest by using one of the following links: http://www.theguardian.com/uk/lifeandstyle http://www.theguardian.com/uk/commentisfree http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/ If your article is online, print it out. Next, annotate the article or blog post. Highlight words or phrases that you think are interesting or distinctive. For example, you might annotate features that make the writing informal or formal, humorous or serious, or that show it is for a niche (specialist or expert) audience. When you take your Language Variation exam paper, the skill of closely analysing a text in this way will be very important.
