Analysis and Design of the Water Distribution Network for Teeba area,Nablus By Ranin Abu Gharbieh Under supervision of Dr. Mohammad Almasri

Introduction Objective Outline Study Area Methodology Design Results

Introduction Importance of water. Significance of designing a water distribution network. Water is the most important component in the human life which forms 70% of human body. An important element like water should be available in high level of accessibility, safe, clean, and in adequate quantity Because of this, Water distribution networks are used to transmit water from the resources to the consumptions. It decreases the effort, time, cost and make the life easier

Objective Design water distribution network The main aim of this project is to design a water distribution network capable in providing the population with sufficient quantities of water in accordance with local and international standards

Building distribution Methodology Collecting Data Master plan Population Maps Analysis AutoCAD & GIS Contour map Road network Building distribution Design WDN Water CAD demand Pipes & node Reervoir Result velocity Pressure The methodology that followed in this project, first we collect the needed data, we get the master plan from a surveyor and the population from PBCS, then by using AutoCAD and GIS softwares we extract the countor map, road network and building distribution from the master plan. After this we transferred these maps to watercad to design WDN and we have results on velocities and pressures

Design Criterias Pressure Max: 100 m H2O Min : 20 m H2O Velocity: Max: 3 m/s Min: 0.3 m/s

Node characteristics Elevation Demand

Demand Calculations Finding the area of Teeba using GIS ArcMap. Choosing villas as the common type of building in Teeba. Getting the avg number of family members in Palestine. Considering the domestic consumption. According to WHO the average demand is …… and we assume that the losses in network is .20 thus we must to provide 145 And according to PBCS the population in 2007 was….. And growth factor is 1.9 thus the current population is …… and consider design period of 35 years the future population is ….. And the future demand is ….

Thiessen Polygon

Reservoir characteristics Coordinate Elevation

Design results Point one: The elevation of the reservoir less than many junctions elevation Using pump

Cont.. Point two: At (2-4) am facing high pressure problems At (6-8) am and (4-6) pm facing high and low pressure problems

Cont.. Point three: Low pressure problem solutions High pressure problem solutions

Main network before splitting

Networks after splitting High pressure network Low pressure network

High pressure network analysis Analyze the high pressure network, trying to minimize as much as possible the number of junctions with high pressure.

Low pressure network analysis Applying the same analysis as done in the high pressure network, gives a good results such that almost all junctions pressure within the acceptable range (20-100) mH2O.

Velocity constraint Upper limit(3m/s) not exceeded in any pipe Lower limit(0.3m/s), some pipes fall under it, so the diameter of all pipes except the main pipe considered 2 inch, where the diameter of the main pipe is 6 inch

Conclusion

Applying an alternative solution for the high pressure network using a pressure reducing valve, if a looped network is to be constructed for Teeba area in the future.
