School holidays, second week October 2012 Updates: School holidays, second week

Our second week of school holidays went really well. The girls enjoyed slow mornings and lots of shared play opportunities.

Hahgoot finds sorting and ordering objects relaxing I taught Hahgoot to play speed with the Taki cards, and she was very enthusiastic though it was a motor planning challenge for her The girls managed to find the biggest teddies to hug at K-Mart!

Hahgoot didn’t stop doing homework in the evenings during the holidays, as it is part of her winding down bedtime routine. She enjoyed worksheets in Hebrew I prepared for her, organized into little workbooks (above). The first ones were about the High Holidays, like crosswords and math riddles. She has enjoyed reading chapter books (level 6).

We also started a new Hebrew project: Hahgoot gets an idiom in Hebrew, and has to guess its meaning (beyond the literal meaning). Then she needs to look it up in the Hebrew dictionary, write down the definition, make up a sentence using the phrase to show she gets the meaning and then draw a literal and a real meaning drawings to illustrate the idiom. Hahgoot loves this project!

Here are the first ones she did Here are the first ones she did. Unfortunately, idioms do not translate well between languages, so only Hebrew speakers can really appreciate her work here...

The girls got a package from the grandparents Atzmon, filled with lovely clothes. Some were too big (like the dress Alma is wearing, size 5) but the T-shirts were a perfect fit for Hahgoot.

The same day they also got a package from the grandparents Simon! This time my mum wrote the letter. Both girls wrote a thank you postcard with drawings.

Our social life was busy, as usual: Helen, Jasmin and Aaron came to visit and enjoyed the sunny weather in the yard while the mothers ate banana cake (straight from the oven) and chatted.

Hahgoot participated in a felt board making workshop at the art gallery and enjoyed it very much. After the workshop we came to pick her up with our friends Emanda and Charlotte Bertwistle and enjoyed lunch at the gallery’s cafe.

We enjoyed our time at the gallery and also a play date at home with afternoon tea.

Our neighbours from Mortlake, Trudy, Lily, Hayden, and Cullum, arrived for a fun afternoon play date. Alma chose a special outfit!

We had afternoon tea together (a fancy coconut cake I made)

The kids played together as if they were never separated...

Everyone likes bubbles!

In our next presentation: Aquatic school holidays adventures I made meatballs and spaghetti for dinner and then we all enjoyed Trudy’s fantastic New Zealand style dessert In our next presentation: Aquatic school holidays adventures
