Objectives Identify factors that influence growth. Distinguish between different types of growth. Warm Up-4 Corners: Break into small groups, write what you know about the types of development listed

Growth & Development The change that occurs between childhood and adulthood is described as maturation As you mature your physical, personal and behavioral characteristics become “more adult”

Types of Growth Types of changes occurring as you grow and develop chronological physical emotional intellectual social

Chronological Growth Refers to a person’s age and occurs at the same rate for all people Is often used for legal purposes Brainstorm examples

Physical Growth Refers to changes in body stature It is influenced by heredity and health habits Food eaten Exercise Care of the body

Intellectual growth Means developing the ability to reason and form complex thought patterns

Intellectual Growth Intellectual growth is influenced by heredity, environment, and the desire to learn The processes involving thought and knowledge are called cognition

Social Growth Means developing the ability to get along with other people
