What is global warming? Global warming is a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the Earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, and other pollutants.

What causes global warming? Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide and other air pollutants and greenhouse gases collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have reflected off the Earth’s surface.

Melting glaciers to Rising Sea Levels Melting glaciers, early snowmelt, and severe droughts will cause more dramatic water shortages and increase the risk of wildfires in the American West. Rising sea levels will lead to coastal flooding on the Eastern Seaboard, especially in Florida, and in other areas such as the Gulf of Mexico.

Disruption Forests, farms, and cities will face troublesome new pests, heat waves, heavy downpours, and increased flooding. All those factors will damage or destroy agriculture and fisheries. Disruption of habitats such as coral reefs and Alpine meadows could drive many plant and animal species to extinction.

What animals are most affected by global warming? Turtles are one of the most affected. Salmon are also affected by global warming.

Greenhouse Effect The greenhouse effect is the trapping of the sun's warmth in a planet's lower atmosphere due to the greater transparency of the atmosphere to visible radiation from the sun than to infrared radiation emitted from the planet's surface.

Fossil Fuels Burning fossil fuels puts carbon into the atmosphere. Other smaller sources include industrial processes such as cement manufacture and natural gas flaring. Fossil fuels provide most of the energy that supports human transportation, electricity production, heating and cooling of buildings, and industrial activity. 

What are some solutions to stop global warming? The solution to global warming is to plant trees and stop adding carbon dioxide to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. To do this, we have to stop using fossil fuels, so we have to find other renewable ways to produce energy.
