Key Terms Place Value- The value given to a number by it’s place and number. Period- The name given to each group of 3 digits in a place value chart. Standard Form- Representing a number using only digits, no words. Instead of having students copy these words into a math toolbox, print the key terms slides off and allow students to glue them in their math toolbox.

Key Terms Expanded Form- The representation of a number as a sum that shows the value of a digit. Word Form- The representation of a number using written words.

Mini-Lesson Ones 5 2 4 7 3 8 1 The 5 is in the millions place. It is worth 5 x 1,000,000 or 5,000,000. Briefly continue with the other numbers in the place value houses. Students should be able to tell the place each number it is in and the value of the number. The 4 is in the ten thousands place. It is worth 4 x 10,000 or 40,000.
