Presentation transcript:

Mentor Sentence #1: “Forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is a permanent attitude.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. What do I do? Copy this quote into your Journal. Write down three things (at least) that make it a powerful statement (this could include punctuation, word choice, sentence structure, or anything else). Get ready to share what you noticed.

Mentor Sentence #1 – Day 2 Education is not the answer to the question; it is the means to answer all questions.” William Allin What do I do? Copy today’s sentence on the same page as yesterday’s sentence in your journal. Notice how they are similar (write two similarities) Notice how they are different (write two differences) Be ready to share your observances

Mentor Sentence #1 – Day 3 Invitation to imitate: What do I do? Reread the Mentor sentence from Monday and the one from yesterday. Think about a topic that you could explain using this sentence structure “Gymnastics isn’t ….” or “Friendship isn’t …”. Draft your own sentence using the same structure as the two mentor sentences. Do not show anybody (yet), Use the whole time trying to craft the best sentence possible.

Mentor Sentence #1 – Day 4 Invitation to revise. What do I do? Trade your journal with your shoulder buddy. Read his/her sentence from yesterday. Write down in the margins of his/her journal anything that surprised you about what you read. Make suggestions about how the sentence could be more powerful based on what you saw in Monday and Tuesday’s mentor sentences. Share the sentences in a small group and decide on which ones to share with the class.
