Classification Kingdom- Animalia Phylum- Chordate Class- Mammalia Order- Proboscidge Family-Elephantidge Genus- Loxodanta Species- african

Shape Very large land mammal with four legs and a trunk on there face and big floppy ears.

Dimensions Length- 9 meters long Height- 12 ft tall at the shoulder Weight- 2 to 7 tons Colors and markings- a darker grey

Habitat Africa and Asia. Adapt to almost any habitats. Forests woodland grassy plain savanna swamps and desserts.

Diet

Family Life Elephants have one or very rarely have two babies. They carry their offspring for around 2 years. They normally have their offspring in the spring of the year. They care for there offspring for two years.

Social Behavior Males will associate with other males in small groups. Females social structure is similar to a concentric ring.

Habits and unique behavior Bulls assess each others strength through spalling or play fighting the level of dominance is related to a bulls size power and weight.

Temperament The elephants temperament is when it is around humans it is mean.

Life-span 50-60 years. Sometimes they make it to their 70’s and an 80 year old has been spotted but it is very rare.

Present status Today it would be hard for elephants to live for long periods of time with living out of captivity.
