Broader scope - Exports, FDI, Capital investment, Civic/Business links, Academic links, Marketing, Tourism, Talent attraction, Culture, Education. Better intelligence about our key sectors. Direct work programmes of GMCA, LEP, and MGC – also align with activities of GM partners. Framework to connect opportunities of Northern Powerhouse. How has Gm changed since last strategy

How has GM Changed? Devolution dividend (eg Health/ Social Care). Wider opportunities through the Northern Powerhouse. Strong knowledge networks across GM. Key sectors and asset strength intelligence. Foreign Capital Investment momentum. Raised international profile – eg strategic relationships with China and UAE. Increasing academic globalisation opportunities How has Gm changed since last strategy

But… GM is facing increased competition from other cities. Need to be smarter to maintain competitive edge: More joined up; More forensic; Exploit our niche advantages. We need to… Identify clear short term actions deliverable within strategy period Identify medium term opportunities commenced within strategy period Identify longer term opportunities Need to articulate and sell our competitive strengths collectively
