FIGURE 1 Bilateral hilar node enlargement in a patient with subacute sarcoidosis. Lung fields are clear. Kveim test positive. Tuberculin test negative. Diseases of the Chest 1969 55, 400-404DOI: (10.1378/chest.55.5.400) Copyright © 1969 The American College of Chest Physicians Terms and Conditions
FIGURE 2 Diffuse nodular mottling of both lung fields with regression of hilar adenopathy. A calcified lymph node is present in right paratracheal region. Kveim test positive. Tuberculin test positive 1/10,000 O.T. Diseases of the Chest 1969 55, 400-404DOI: (10.1378/chest.55.5.400) Copyright © 1969 The American College of Chest Physicians Terms and Conditions
FIGURE 3A (upper). Photomicrograph of specimen of skin removed from a Kveim site after six weeks in a patient with lepromatous leprosy. No gross papule had appeared at the injection site. In the midcorium multiple epithelioid cell follicles are present and they extend to the epidermis. Acid fast stains showed innumerable acid fast rods in the granulomas, characteristic of lepromatous leprosy; negative Kveim reaction (X 100). FIGURE 3B (lower). High power magnification shows the granulomas to be composed of foam cells characteristic of cutaneous leprosy. The granulomas surround the ducts of sweat glands (X 250). FIGURE 4 Photomicrograph of a Kveim papule removed from a patient with active sarcoidosis six weeks after injection. A gross papule measuring 5 mm in diameter was present. In the midcorium multiple noncaseating epithelioid cell granulomas replaced the normal collagen strands. Positive Kveim reaction (X 75).
