Welcome to Miss Elmore’s Math class! More info about me… Originally from Michigan Big football and baseball fan Taught in Kyrene since 2006 Previously taught 3rd, 4th, and 6th grades Majored in Mathematics at Central Michigan University
Principles of Algebra Curriculum connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and developing understanding of statistical thinking.
7th grade instructional focuses will be on… Compact 6/7 Curriculum 6th grade instructional focuses will include those listed in Principles of Algebra. 7th grade instructional focuses will be on… developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; developing understanding of addition and subtraction with rational numbers and working with expressions; solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area and volume; and drawing inferences about populations based on samples.
Pre Algebra Curriculum Ratios and Proportional Relationships Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real‐world and mathematical problems. The Number System Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers. Expressions and Equations Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions. Solve real‐life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations. Geometry Draw, construct and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them. Solve real‐life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume. Statistics and Probability Use random sampling to draw inferences about a population. Draw informal comparative inferences about two populations. Investigate chance processes and develop, use, and evaluate probability models.
Core Enrichment 4th Period (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) Mathia and Code.org Graded as pass/fail. Purpose is to enrich/enhance all core curriculum areas. We rotate teachers daily. Monday - report to your 1st period teacher Tuesday - report to your 3rd period teacher Thursday - report to your 5th period teacher Friday - report to your 7th period teacher
Homework Expectations are that students will work on Mathia, the online component to the Carnegie textbook, at home a minimum of 4 days a week for 30 minutes each day. Mathia log in and contact information located on my website. Quarter 1: Students will be introduced to Mathia. Students are expected to get Mathia working properly at home. While there is no 1st quarter deadline, students who fall behind will need to play catch up 2nd Quarter. Quarters 2, 3 and 4: Students will be assigned modules that will count towards the 20% Homework/Practice grade.
Grading 80% - Assessments 20% - Homework/Practice (Quizzes, Tests, Projects) 20% - Homework/Practice (Warm-ups, Classwork, Mathia, etc.) Grades will be updated promptly and can be viewed in StudentVue and ParentVue. It is important that grades are checked regularly. This is the most immediate form of communication of student progress. A = 90-100% B = 80-89% C = 70-79% D = 60-69% F = 0 – 59%
Tax Credits! $400 per couple or $200 per individual Any Arizona tax payer can take advantage of this and support their local school. Donate directly to the Enterprise Team!
