How can people reduce the impact of Hazards? C - To describe the methods used to reduce the impact of hazards B - To explain the benefits of different PPP methods A* - To evaluate the factors influencing how countries select different PPP methods and how successful they are

1-4 Group Task Use the textbooks to make notes under the following headings; Prediction Methods Protection Methods Preparation Methods Note: Y should include; what, when, who, where, how and WHY Extension: Describe with diagrams, explain with connectives and evaluate the effectiveness of each method

5-7 Group Task Organise the cards in to the following categories; Predicting hazards Protection people from the effects of hazards Preparation of resources and people Rank each column from most to least expensive Select one from each column and evaluate how it works, how effective it is and how much work/money would be required to apply the method Give scores to each method for a specific factor; money required, effectiveness, ease of application, level of education required.

8-10 Group Task Use the QR codes and the iPods to investigate a range of methods (or lack of methods) used in the following countries; Japan, USA and Haiti Evaluate how well these methods are working. Explain why they worked so well and how did they save lives and reduce devastation Why are so few countries well prepared for natural hazards?
