Presentation Abstract The Common Core State Standards were adopted with the clear expectation that students with disabilities fully participate in this standards-based initiative. This presentation will provide a framework for analyzing the extent to which current special education teacher preparation programs align with the learning priorities and dispositions embedded in the Standards.

Session Overview

Purpose of the Common Core Standards To ensure that all students, no matter where they live, are prepared for success in postsecondary education and the workforce. To establish a shared set of educational standards (i.e., goals and expectations) for English language arts and mathematics. To provide grade level benchmarks for skills and knowledge students should have by the end of the year.

Purpose of the Common Core Standards To promote a culture of high expectations for all students is a fundamental goal of the Common Core Standards.
