Presentation transcript:

No School on Friday – Teacher Workday Mrs. Stone’s Class Classroom Newsletter October 2, 2017 Big Universe On the day your child brings home the required reading homework, you will find a letter introducing the Big Universe. This year, our school will be using this online literacy program to enhance student reading skills. Each student will have their own logon ID and will be able to access this program at home or at school. This is a new program to CCE that we are excited to have. Field Trip We sent home a form on Friday asking you to let us know if your child would like to order a bagged lunch for our field trip on October 24th. We need this form returned by Tuesday as we need to give the cafeteria manager our lunch count. More information will be sent home regarding the field trip early this week. Wednesday CCE will be wearing orange in memory and celebration of Darien Gray’s life. What Are We Learning? This week, two of the books we will be reading to integrate our learning goals will be: Otis by Loren Long and The Relatives Came by Cynthia Rylant. Math – (1.NBT.3a) I can compare two numbers by knowing the amount of tens and ones in each number. ELA – (1.RL.1a) I can answer questions about details in a story. (1.Rl.2b) I can retell key details of a text. (1.RF.2c) I can say a sound in each word. (1.W.3c) I can write sequencing words to show the order of events. Science – (1.E.2.1) I can list the properties of rocks, minerals, soil and water. I can explain how water, rocks and minerals are Earth materials. Social Studies – (1.C&G.1.2) I can classify the roles of authority figures in the home, school and community (teacher, principal, parents, mayor, park rangers, game wardens, etc.). Reading Homework This week, your child will have required reading homework along with the optional tic tac toe board homework. There will be a letter that goes along with the reading that will explain the required homework in more detail. We are dividing the students up into different days, so your child may not come home with a book until Thursday. If you have any questions, please let us know. Conferences If you have not had a chance to sign up for a conference, please do so. It can be a telephone conference or in person at CCE. I would like to go over how your child did on our recent reading and math assessments and what the expectations are for the year.
