Enhancing Research Impact Support your staff in identifying and communicating the wider impact of their research. Enhancing Research Impact is designed to meet the growing need for universities to place engagement and impact higher on their agendas. The programme will help academics and universities as a whole demonstrate the contribution that their high quality research makes to wider society.

Contributors LEAD ADVISOR: Dr. Ged Hall Dr. Ged Hall is Innovation and Enterprise Senior Training and Development Officer at the University of Leeds. He provides training and development opportunities for researchers, at all stages of their careers, to assist them in achieving impact from their research. He also offers advice on including impact within grant applications (UK research councils and European funding). Ged has 10 years of industrial experience in the gas and utility sectors where he worked with academic researchers to solve technological problems facing businesses in these areas. He is a graduate of the University of Leeds with a BSc in Chemistry (1990) and a PhD in Physical Chemistry (1995). He was also Director of the LearnHigher CETL, Deputy Director of the WriteNow CETL and Head of Career Development at Liverpool Hope University. In 2008, he published, with Dr. Jo Longman, The Postgraduate's Companion. He was also shortlisted for the 2008 Times Higher Education Award for Outstanding Support for Early Career Researchers with colleagues from other Midlands universities.

Professor Sir Robert Lechler Professor Sir John Tooke Contributors Professor Sir Robert Lechler Professor Sir Robert Lechler is President of the Academy of Medical Sciences, Vice-Principal (Health) at King's Col lege London and Executive Director of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. Sir Robert's clinical and research career have focused on the pursuit of clinical transplantation tolerance. In 2012, he received a knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours for Services to Academic Medicine. Professor Sir John Tooke Professor Sir John Tooke was President of the Academy of Medical Sciences from 2011-2015. He formerly held the positions of Vice-Provost (Health), Head of the School of Life and Medical Sciences, and Head of the Medical School at UCL. He is a past Chair of both the Medical Schools Council and the UK Healthcare Education Advisory Committee (UKHEAC). Sir John's clinical and research interests focus on diabetes and its vascular complications. In 2007, he received a knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours for Services to Medicine.

Overview ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME: Enhancing Research Impact will support staff in demonstrating the wider impact of their research, and meet the growing need for universities to place public engagement higher on their agendas. The courses are designed to help universities identify and demonstrate the contribution their high-quality research has made to the economic, social, cultural and environmental benefit of society. Academics who complete this programme will have substantial material to contribute either to a critical impact case study or other ways of demonstrating research impact in the 2020 and 2026 Research Excellence Frameworks (REF).
