Thesis Thursday Please construct a thesis (write the prompt at the top, please…) based on the following prompt— Based on your readings: Do you believe the ancient civilizations of the Assyrians and Persians still play a role in shaping today’s world? This will be graded on the district’s 4 point scale.

2 Tools that United Empire 1. Royal Road Went from Persia to Anatolia (modern day Turkey) 1,677 miles 2. Standard Money All providences used the same money, didn’t need to exchange to local currency This promoted trade Trade allowed them to hold the empire together http://www.history.com/topics/exploration/marco-polo/videos/persias-royal-road

Persian Government Darius’ biggest success- his organization/administration over such a large empire Divided into 20 providences Each providence had the freedom of religion Satrap—governor who rules a providence These were the “eyes and ears” of Darius

Persian Government Government structure that helps unite the empire… Tolerance, freedom to continue their way of life, protection of the Persians—backed by the large Persian army Another early glimpse of local government with ties to a centralized structure…again, sound familiar?

Persian Religion Zoroaster—religious reformer/prophet God of truth and light= Ahura Mazda God of evil and darkness= Ahrimin Deeds of man are weighed out… Idea of heaven, hell and final judgment Parsi sect= largest group of Zoroastrians today Limited greatly by the spread and conquest of Islam…

In your reading groups Form smaller groups (5-6) to focus on the following: Timeline with major events and people Elements of Culture Main ideas, terms, places, & people with explanation Image describing the shift and impact of the Greeks Each smaller group will be putting the information on a large paper to be displayed proudly for all to see…
