Burns Night

What is the Burns night Scottish people at home and abroad celebrate the life and works of Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns. They will celebrate it with numerous events taking place around the country to recite his famous works and celebrate his lasting legacy on Scottish culture.

When is it celebrated? It’s celebrated on the 25th of January each year. It is the day when Robert Burn was born.

How is it celebrated? A Burns Supper takes place on the evening of January the 25 and will feature a combination of Burns poetry recitals, traditional Scottish food such as cock-a-leekie soup, Haggis, neeps and tatties, whisky, dancing and much more. Burns Suppers can range from an informal gathering of your nearest and dearest, to a large, formal dinner spectacle.

Cock-a-leekie soup neeps and tatties Haggis

Address to a Haggis Address to a Haggis is one of Robert Burns' most famous and regularly performed poems. Written in 1786 not long after Burns arrived in Edinburgh, this poem has become the centerpiece of Burns' Suppers today. First two lines of the address are: ‘Fair fa’ yer honest, sonsie face, Great chieftain o’ the puddin’ race!’ Tłumaczenie: Witaj oblicze szczere i radosne, o wielki wodzu kiełbasowej rasy!
