Presentation transcript:

BPM development at ATF/CLIC Build on existing experimental infrastructure already built up at ATF2 (KEK) and develop program at ITB/CLIC Significant experience/expertise in C (15nm resolution) and S (100nm resolution) band cavity development to transfer to CLIC/EU activities. 20 C-band cavities to be used in ATF2 beam line Start in ATF2 core activity (ATF2 final focus test system, major ILC facility) Move to BPM design for ITB/CLIC. Advanced BPM test facility in EU

Existing ILC program 3 Research associates RF simulation expertise Electronics Simulation and readout controls Existing ILC facilities ESA (shutdown during 2008) ATF (shutdown Summer 2008) ATF2 Hardware and travel for S-band cavity development. Final focus beam delivery cavity Focus will shift to general cavity development Quite independent on STFC funding between now and 2010

Request Start in ATF2 core activity (ATF2 final focus test system, major ILC facility Move to BPM design for ITB/CLIC. Advanced BPM test facility in EU Request for 0.5 FTE for 4 years and travel Involvement in ATF2 program at KEK Move onto European activities after ATF2 program is developed (~35nm focus acheived) Resources Material [€] (inc Travel) Integrated human resources direct [€] Indirect [€] [FTE· Months] direct [€] indirect [€] Lab contribution (a) 101 424k Requested (b) 18k 11k 24 134k 81k Total (a+b) 10.8k 125 558k

BPM Cuts 100% 0.5 FTE for 4 years 6 trips to EU/Japan Involvement in ATF2 Commissioning/operation FF system 70% 0.35 FTE for 4 years 4 trips to EU Small involvement in ATF2 50% 0.5 FTE for 2 years 2 trips p.a to EU CLIC/CTF BPM design No ATF2 involvement 30% No new post. Continue existing RA on BPM design

Summary European involvement in LC test facilities (ATF) UK group already key collaborator in ATF2 Independent Beam position test facility Develop key skills Manufacturing and industrialisation Develop high resolution beam position monitors for ITB/CLIC Difficult given bunch spacing Join existing collaborations in BPM design, prototype and test
