Agenda 2/7/17 1) Sketchbook #26: Erik Johannson Artwork 2) Erik Johannson: Video 3) Photoshop Skills to Learn: “Orange Peel Frog.” Masking to blend images, image adjustments: color balance, levels, dodge, burn, cast shadows 4) Complete 1 “Surreal Effects” Tutorial: See slide 3 for details See website for links Due end of next class 5) Begin your Surreal World Project Learn a new “surreal effect” technique with a tutorial Find reference photos/stock photos Or take your own photos to incorporate

Sketchbook #26: Review the Erik Johannsen’s website and artwork. Choose 1 artwork you like the best. Describe it or draw a small sketch of it. Explain why this artwork appeals to you. Why do like it? Explain what makes this artwork Surreal. How is it a realistic world with dream-like elements? What looks realistic and believable? What elements are illogical? What “Surreal Techniques” are employed in this artwork? Explain at least 2 techniques.

““Surreal Effects” Tutorial: You will complete 1 unique tutorial on your own. Review the Photoshop Tutorials links and choose “Out of Bounds” or a “Surreal Effects” tutorial that interests you. The tutorial you complete must teach you something new and complex, resulting in an “Out of Bounds” artwork or a “Surreal Effect” artwork. The tutorial and artwork should take you at least 60 minutes to complete. It should take more - if not, it may not be complex. Choose a different tutorial. You must use different photos than the tutorial. Learn the skills, but make the artwork your own! For example: if the tutorial makes a frog out of raspberries, than you make a lizard out of eggs, or a squirrel out of grapes.
