EXAMPLE 1 - (Argumentative) EXPOSITORY WRITING EXAMPLE 1 - (Argumentative) Examination is not the best way to select leaders.Discuss. Exams are a part of our culture and are not a waste of time. Asian society is so into exams as a means to select its future leaders. Alternative methods of assessment are not rigorous enough. Exams are a test and time honored way of selecting future leaders. Asian society is so into exams as a means to select it future leaders. In old imperial China, scholars would sit for national exams that would last for days and it is through these exams that officials were selected. This way of selecting only the best served China well for thousands of years although some say that the imperial system is too old to work in this modern age. Alternative forms of assessment may be used, But they may not be rigorous enough. In the USA, star power seems to be the criteria for presidency. Looking at President Obama who enjoys star status on his winning the Presidency, we can see that his lack of experience and knowledge has caused him to make bad policies in healthcare and in foreign relations with China which have been a disaster for the US. So like it or not, exams are a tested and time honored way of selecting leaders. That is why the British adopted the Chinese imperial system of exams in 1851 to select only the best to fill the roles of civil service and that only the best and most capable will ascendent to the highest order of the land to serve the country.
