Parts of a pendulum Angle Length of Pendulum String Weight of Pendulum Bob
What is a variable? Variable- Any factor that can be controlled, changed, or measured in an experiment Independent Variable Dependent Variable Controlled Variables/ Control group
Is there only one way to do science? Experimental investigation Systematic Investigation Descriptive Comparative
Experimental investigation An organized scientific investigation that includes a control group and is designed to test the hypothesis. Only attempts to change ONE variable at a time!
Descriptive investigation An investigations in which scientific questions are investigated and observations are recorded and catalogued. Examples?? A student used a microscope to observe an amoeba to determine how the organism moved.
Comparative investigation An investigation where observations are made that compare two objects or phenomena. Examples?? A student used a hand lens to examine the color and texture of four different rocks.
