Schedule: A Day B Day On our A/B schedule, students will have art every other day (A or B) for the year resulting in 90 45-minute classes.

6th grade art 7/8 Art: Mixed Media and Digital Art 2D 3D I will be teaching 6th grade art. I will also be teaching 2D Art and 3D Art elective courses for 7th and 8th grade. Grades: I use the “points” system on PowerSchool. I enter grades at least once a week.  Please check PowerSchool frequently. Creating assignments will carry the most weight as students will demonstrate their learning of artistic concepts through creating artwork. Student Expectations: Class rules that are posted in my classroom remind students to BE responsible, safe, and respectful.  I expect students to be kind and work together.  I will work with each student to help improve skills in art and creative problem-solving.  I ask that students have an open mind and be willing to do their best.  Students should approach me in person or in email if there is ever a concern or problem so it can be resolved as soon as possible.

Be Responsible Be Responsible: You need to be in your seat before class starts and be ready with a sharpened pencil (with eraser) when class begins.  If you don't have a pencil with you, you may borrow one when you enter the classroom and then please return at the end of the class.  Review the school policies in your handbook. If you are absent, please see me about missed work immediately upon your return.   Storage/Clean Up: Each student is responsible for cleaning the tools used and the area at which the student worked. Student art folders provided by the teacher and artwork will be stored in classroom.  Students may wish to wear older clothes or borrow a smock as many lessons will include messy materials.

Be Respectful Be Respectful: Frank Lloyd Wright The Guggenheim Museum Be Respectful: The art room is a place where everyone should feel comfortable. Respect for others is essential. You need to be polite to everyone in the room. Dismissal is given by the teacher, not the bell or clock. Students will remain in seats until this time.

Be Safe Be Safe: Students will be given specific instructions on how to use tools and materials in a safe way. Immediate action will be taken regarding unsafe acts of any kind or disregard of instructions meant to protect students from possible injury. Students are responsible for respecting and caring for the equipment in the room.

Teacher Expectations:   Students should feel free to talk to me at appropriate times in class.   You may also email me any questions or concerns. Please let me know right away if you are have a question or concern so we can work together to find an appropriate solution. I will reply to emails during the week within a day. I post grades usually once a week on PowerSchool. I stay after school 1-2 days a week for extra help or additional time to work. I participate in Zoom Team , Unified Sports, and Sketchbook Club.

Teacher Expectations: I am passionate about art and I love teaching middle school students.  I want students to feel empowered to communicate visually and to creatively solve design problems.  I want students to enjoy learning and realize that creativity and art can be practiced and developed.  I make art daily and try to share my experiences and strategies to help every student to feel pride in their work. I will cover a wide variety of art materials and styles this year in order to allow you to see the range of artistic styles and processes in the hopes that you will find more than one that you enjoy Artwork by Elizabeth Titus

Art, like many other skills needs to be practiced. Class time should be used wisely to challenge and further your skills. Please be an active participant in your learning.

Some helpful information about how I teach:  My website includes helpful resources for class assignments including videos to demonstrate techniques or challenging concepts.  I use my website to help “flip” my classrooms that you can learn concepts from watching the videos at home and then use class time to spend more time creating the project.  My hope is that the videos will be a helpful way to support understanding of art concepts.  This will also facilitate more time in class for hands-on learning as well as time to work with individual students. I try to work with students help individualize the pacing of the lesson to keep students engaged and focused and to allow students to monitor their own learning.  I hope you will check out the website a to get information on current assignments and to help support and encourage creative problem-solving.
