Welcome to class! August 17, 2016 Do Now: Take our your journal and your copy of “The Seafarer.” In your journal complete the SWAGR acronym for YOUR culture: Source of food/water Writing & literature Achievements Government Religion What questions do you have about the culture assignment?

Seaing meaning in “The Seafarer” Each group will be assigned a question. Work with your group to answer the question fully. Use textual evidence to support your thinking. We will then present our findings to the class. This will give us a chance to teach others (the highest form of learning) and learn from other groups.

“The Wanderer” Read and annotate “The Wanderer.” Do NOT complete the questions.

August 18, 2016 Happy Thursday! I’m happy you’re here! Do Now: Take our your journal and your copy of “The Seafarer.” (You’ll also need “The Wanderer.” Answer the following question in your journal: Lines 101-124 of “The Seafarer” are controversial. Do YOU think they were part of the original poem? Why or why not?

August 19, 2016 Happy Friday, Americans! Do Now: Take out both poems. Hand in your Creative Culture Assignment to the back table. Make sure you have an artist’s statement and a rubric attached. Make sure you have a copy of the summer reading rubric, and a copy of the sample paragraphs. (On the podium)
