If you need to change dismissal plans, send a note with your child or let the office know by 2 p.m. and Shar Byerly will let me know. 692-6629 Folder. Your child will have a homework folder. Please help by checking and correcting homework before it’s turned in and remove what can stay at home. Check it each day! E-learning. We use schoology to post assignments on E-Learning Days. Login by going to: http://schoology.accs.k12.in.us/login ABC’s of our Class Homework. Math will usually be assigned Mon. through Thurs. It should take only 10-15 minutes. Let me know if it becomes a struggle. No homework on Fridays. Go Jets! Our classroom is Jet-themed since Adams Central is ‘Home of the Flying Jets!’ Independence. Each year your child is able to add to the list of “Things They Can Do Independently!” Look for times to allow them to do the work and learn new skills. Be patient with them and celebrate as they get better and better! Jobs. Your child will have a different classroom job each day. We have a ‘Jobs Wheel’ that helps us work together to keep our room running smoothly. Lunch. We eat at 11:15. (11:25 Wed.) Lunch is $2.00 and breakfast is $1:50. You can deposit lunch money at mymealtime.com or send it in an envelope with name, account number, and amount listed. Packers need their name and grade labeled on their lunchbag. Keeping Updated. Look for a golden-colored weekly newsletter with important updates. It comes home on Fridays in the homework folder. Also available online: www.accs.k12.in.us < Parents < Elementary Newsletters < First Grade 1A Mrs. Linder

Mystery Bag. Every 20 days your child will come home with the class Mystery Bag. They choose an item and write some clues. Each day we have fun guessing what is in the bag. News. If your child has any important news, please share it with me. Not only will this help with learning, but it will help me to connect with your child as an individual. Only 180 days together. It will go fast! Thanks for partnering with me to make first grade a successful year for your child. Purple Power. This is a big deal! When I notice a student going above and beyond, they get to move their behavior card to purple. We also use green, yellow, and red cards to keep track of behavior. Questions – Please question your child each day after school. Ask what they learned in unit, who they played with, what they ate, and what color their behavior card was at the end of the day. RAH. Reading At Home is essential for a successful year! Students are expected to read 10 minutes, 5 nights a week, October-May. They can also count minutes when adults read to them! Fun rewards follow! Specials. We go to… Art with Mrs. Flesch, Library with Mrs. Spiegel, Gym with Mrs. Brown, Technology w/ Mrs. Mendenhall, and Music with Mrs. King, in that order. A different special class for each day of the week! Teacher. That’s me! I am Katie. I’ve taught for 9 years, in grades K-2 and Title I Reading. I have a masters in Elementary Education and have taught in Monroe, Decatur, and Ossian. I love first graders! I also enjoy cheering on the Jets! Unique. Each child is special and unique! We will have a “Special Jet” each week! This person will share photos, be interviewed, and eat lunch in the classroom! They invite a guest reader to read their favorite book! A slip will come home before your child’s turn. Volunteers. We love them! Different ways to volunteer in first grade: donating snack items or volunteering to help at holiday parties, listening to students read, running copies, etc. Sign up at Back to School Night or email me if interested. eXperiences. Kids come to school with all sorts of them. Some can read well, some take time to warm up to a new teacher. Please don’t worry if your child is behind or ahead at this point. Individual progress throughout the year is the goal! Wish List. Empty Velveeta Cheese boxes, old, clean socks for dry erase boards, individually wrapped candies for our class candy jar, small prizes for treasure box Your help. Please check the folder each day, supervise homework, listen to them read each night, and clean out their backpacks daily! Thanks, parents! ZZZZ’s. Kids need lots of sleep. First graders should strive for 9-11 hours of sleep each night.
