Year 9 Trip to Beth Shalom Holocaust Centre. Thursday 28th September

Start of the day Be at school and meet in the school canteen at 8.15am! Sit with your form group so you can be registered. Depart at 8.30am for Beth Shalom Holocaust Centre. You will be put in groups that you are to stay in during the day. You will be directed to the coaches you are going on.

Coach If you need travel sickness pills please take them at least 30 mins before the journey. You will be travelling on three coaches. The journey takes approximately one and a half hours. Seatbelts must be worn at all times, this is a legal requirement. No rubbish is to be left on the bus. For the health and safety of some students there must be no nuts on any of the buses.

At Beth Shalom Holocaust Centre On arrival you will have a short time to go to the toilet and will then be directed to the main hall for an initial talk. Group activities will rotate. The activities include survivor talk and question time; visiting the exhibition and walking around the memorial gardens. Lunch can be taken in the café or in the ‘pyramid’ (located outside the main building. You will have about 15 minutes to visit the bookshop before we leave at 3.15pm.

Lunch We will all eat lunch in the coffee shop or in the ‘pyramid’. Where you can also purchase drinks and snacks. You will be able to use the toilets and visit the book Shop during lunchtime. Please show respect to your surroundings and put your rubbish in the bins provided, and don’t leave a mess! Don’t forget your pack up! No fizzy drinks and no energy drinks!

At the Centre This is a Holocaust Memorial Centre. Remember what the victims of the Holocaust had to endure – please show utmost respect to all areas of the centre. In the gardens walk – do not run. This would not only be disrespectful but the paths are narrow and uneven so care needs to be taken. There is an area where you can place pebbles in memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. You must not throw stones anywhere in the grounds.

General Reminders Be on time. We will leave for Beth Shalom Holocaust Centre at 8.30am. If school busses are late we will wait, but make sure you get to the canteen as soon as you arrive. Make sure you have been to the toilet. School uniform and normal school shoes must be worn. Note book, pencil and pen a good idea. Camera/phone – optional but you must be responsible for it. Packed lunch and drinks (no fizzy drinks, cans or energy drinks). You are responsible for any money or valuables. Go to the school canteen to be registered on the morning of the trip.

If we all act responsibly and respectfully we will all have a great day
