Who loves extra credit?!?!

Mrs. Smidt’s Class Syllabus Isn’t science fun? These words will be heard often in 6th grade science class. Students will be studying science through an integrated approach where earth/space, life, and physical science concepts are interwoven. This year Deerlake Middle School Science department will be using a consumable Interactive Student Textbook by Glencoe to support the learning and mastery of the Florida State Standards for 6th grade science. These standards may be viewed by going to the Deerlake homepage and looking on my Teacher website. The assignments and activities within this program will give students the opportunity to construct their own understanding of science concepts. FCAT science will be tested when students are in 8th grade. Throughout the year our lessons will also support and strengthen reading and mathematics skills within our content area. We will be engaging in many hands-on activities which require supplies and consumable materials. You will be receiving a lab fee letter soon asking for a $5.00 donation to help pay for these supplies.

Materials Materials: Students need to have a 2-inch three ring binder, dividers, paper, pencils, highlighter, colored pencils, and a glue stick, and a pencil sharpener.   Textbook: Students will be issued pages of the interactive textbook one unit at a time. You must keep these pages in your binder until they are turned in at the end of the unit. This book is designed to be written in so there is no text book to return at the end of the year. The completed and graded chapters may be kept at home for the purpose of studying for exams, etc.

There is little “Homework” in this class! Good news! There is little “Homework” in this class! Only chapter textbook pages and incompleted classwork.
