Foundation Stage Maths Workshop

Follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum Maths is split into 2 areas: Number and Shape Space and Measure Curriculum is split into Learning Outcomes 30-50 mths, 40-60mths, ELG. Practical and fun!

Shape Space and Measure ELG Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money. Investigation/ exploration size, Tall, taller, tallest, Short, shorter, shortest. Measuring items using cubes and rulers. Weight, Using scales to find items that are heavy and light. Moving to heavier, heaviest, lighter and lightest. capacity, How much something holds. different shaped containers to learn the concept of full, empty, half full, nearly full both with water and sand. position, Vocabulary is important. Where is Teddy/ child? Under, on top, next to, inbetween, behind. Play hunt the ..... Game giving instructions/ directions. Choose an adult and ask them to close their eyes. They recognise, create and describe patterns. We do lots of pattern work looking at patterns in the environment and copying patterns we see. Shape Space and Measure ELG They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them. 2D and 3D Shapes feely bag to describe properties, making pictures, sorting by shape, curved/ straight sides. Clixi boxes. What shapes can you see in the classroom? Point to a square? Circle? Cuboid? Cylinder?
