This includes your daily reading, so it is important to use your class time effectively. You will be expected to complete study guides at home to reinforce concepts prior to taking tests. Students will be allowed to redo or fix- up tests or assignments to improve scores and learn the content, but they will need to complete ALL test corrections at home, at recess or before/after school. Students will have 1 reading goal per quarter and be expected to use AR and reading journals to show comprehension. O Room 220 Class Expectations – Always Follow the ‘NORTH WAY’…. Rules Consequences 70% 20% Incident # 1 = REDIRECT: the teacher provides a verbal redirection/reminder Incident # 2 = RESET: the students are moved to a designated area in the classroom to continue their learning independently and ‘reset’ their behavior Incident # 3 = REFOCUS: Students move to a designated buddy-classroom to debrief with another teacher and complete a Problem Solving Worksheet (PSW) to acknowledge the misbehavior and create an action plan for future success. The student/teacher will notify the parent and the PSW will need to signed by a guardian and returned the following school day. *Two REFOCUSES in one week will result in a formal office referral, in which a meeting with Ms. O’Brien or Mr. Samuels will occur and further disciplinary action will result. What do you know about William Shakespeare, his life and his writings? ELA 6th Grade Mrs. Berg 2017 – 2018 Depending on the assignment, scores are weighted differently in this class. All tests/quizzes, cumulative projects and performance tasks (essays) are worth 70%. Daily work, practice, homework, journal entries and independent reading participation are worth 30%. Students have TWO weeks to turn-in a missing assignment or improve a score once it is posted online in LMS. Students need to take responsibility and ownership for their own learning and LMS is an essential tool to help them keep up-to-date in all their classes. Grading Policies 2016-2017 30% Class progress reports will be sent home monthly via e-mail, so please have an updated e-mail address on file with the office. Grades are updated online weekly and parents and students are strongly encouraged to check Learning Management Services (online real-time access to student information) on a weekly basis to view the most current grades for EVERY class and to ensure all assignments get completed. We will be using a language arts curriculum called, Springboard. These materials mesh both reading and writing together in an authentic way that will better prepare students with 21st century thinking skills such as: creativity/innovation, critical thinking/problem solving, communication and collaboration. Students will be analyzing texts in a variety of ways and then using that insight to enhance their own writing skills at the end of each unit through the completion of a (written) performance task. 70% Units of Study Dates (May change) Essential Questions Unit 1: Stories of Change Writing a narrative Sept. – Nov.
