Now I’d like you to choose a profession you think can make you famous too. Use this dialogue to talk about it (SB p.94 Ex. 47). Work in pairs. Replace the words denoting professions.

II Основной этап (Чтение текста) PRE-READING a) Listen to the sentences and try to guess what famous person we’re going to read about today (write down the underlined words with translation on the board and read one fact at a time, and after each fact ask the pupils “Who am I?”). I was born in Florida, Missouri, in 1835. My real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens. I was married and had four children. I had a thick grey moustache. I worked as a river pilot, a silver prospector, a reporter. I was a famous writer. I published “The adventures of Tom Sawyer” in 1873.

Post-reading a) Decide whether the following sentences are true or false, give your reasons. Mark Twain wasn’t a lecturer. He told sad stories. The club member laughed at his jokes. The club member’s uncle didn’t laugh at his jokes. The old man didn’t laugh because he couldn’t speak.

Post-reading All the members of the club laughed at his jokes. b) Put the sentences in the correct order. All the members of the club laughed at his jokes. Once a club member asked him to make his uncle laugh. But the club member's uncle didn’t even smile. Literary clubs often invited Mark Twain to speak. The matter was that he was deaf. Mark Twain tried hard and told a lot of funny stories.
