Preview of the Revamped Library Research Tutorial for ELI Presented by Jennifer Peters-Lise Digital Services Librarian May 13 & 14, 2008 Technologies for Faculty Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) Students

Background Previous ELI tutorial created in 2004 http://ilearn.senecac.on.ca/library/eli/ Library surveyed ELI faculty in 2007 for recommendations to update the tutorial. Started work on new tutorial in Jan 2008

Recommendations from survey Remove orientation and introduction module Shorten modules More graphics/less dense text Focus more on evaluation of resources Include a link to the MLA and Plagiarism tutorials Create more self-directed assessments (quizzes, exercise) throughout the tutorial and remove final assignment

What’s new in the tutorial? Camtasia videos for searching the library catalogue and article databases Split screen hands-on exercises

The new ELI Tutorial http://infoliteracy.senecac.on.ca/eli/

Integration with MySeneca Separate modules – integrate specific modules with weekly sessions Add a marked quiz Track who is using the tutorial Can request a “package” from the library

Volunteers to pilot the tutorial? 1 or 2 courses this summer Provide feedback from students Identify technical issues If possible, allow Jenn to observe a class that is working through the tutorial
