What is an Impact Statement? An Impact Statement is a brief summary of the economic, social, and/or environmental impact of a program, including payoff to society. Impact is the measurable difference a program makes. Impact statement provides the return on investment or what difference we make.

Why write Impact Statements? (Please refer to your handout) Funding Improved effectiveness Accountability Increased visibility Outreach Enhanced credibility Partnerships Shared knowledge Media coverage Accreditation Validation

What impact is not? Impact is not A long, detailed, technical report Descriptions of process or activity Numbers of people reached, meetings held, acres affected, etc. The same as success stories The same as outputs (e.g., papers, computer programs, policy)
