Presentation transcript:

ST PAUL Guess who! I am a Roman Citizen. I used to persecute Christians. I had a vision on the road to Damascus. I often visit Peter in Jerusalem. I travel around Europe teaching. I also write to many communities. My name was originally Saul.

New Testament (NT) Written after the death of Jesus by Christians. Second part of the Christian sacred text (Bible). Written in Greek. Distinct books written by different people for different purposes. 4 Gospels about Jesus, a narrative of the Apostles, 21 letters (called epistles) and a book on the Apocalypse. We will focus on the letters of St Paul.

Unit Title: The Power of Words Focus Question: How am I inspired by powerful words? Learning Intention: To explore what the New Testament says about God Success Criteria: To complete a higher level thinking task relating to the topic. Last Lesson OT Words about God This Lesson NT Words about God Next Lesson Other Words about God

Paul’s Letters to the Galatians and Corinthians We are going to read two letters written by St Paul; one to the Galatians, and one to the Corinthians.

Galatia was a part of the Roman Empire What country is this nowadays?

1. Paul’s letters to the Galatians Read Paul’s letter to the Galatians (chapter 3) Copy it into your OneNote Highlight where he expresses his core beliefs

Corinth is in Greece

2. Paul’s Letters to the Corinthians Read Paul’s letter to the Corinthians (chapter 13) Copy it into your OneNote Highlight where he expresses his core beliefs Summarise his letter in one sentence

Choose your own tasks based on your confidence on the topic! Summarize Paul’s letter to the Galatians (chapter 3) in your own words. What do you think is his main message? Read the summary of the whole letter from Paul to the Galatians. What other core beliefs do you come across? Does it add to your understanding about Paul’s letters and his intentions? Make notes to both questions/ answers. Using the information you have learned in our Unit “The Power of Words” so far, develop 2 different scenarios, which could go both ways- positive or negative, depending on your word choice. Write a script for both versions of your scenarios. (Note: It can be a situation, which happened to you or something you saw/ heard somewhere, which would have gone in a more positive or negative way, if other words and/ or arguments would have been used.) Paul is talking about “the covenant previously established by God” (Galatians 3:17), but what is he referring to? Examine the following clip visualising the covenants in detail. Explain what ‘covenant’ means. List the people God made covenants with and summarise what happened and what went wrong in each story. Create your own storyboard, describing the stories of the covenants with God. Do you agree or disagree to the statement “the end of the bible story is really just a new beginning” as mentioned in the clip from task 4. Explain your answer. Choose your own tasks based on your confidence on the topic! Tip: Work at your own pace, this is not a race!
