The Program Sponsored by the Ministry of Education of Spain in collaboration with the Spanish regions. US college students and graduates whose first language is English. Share their language and culture in the public school system in Spain during one school year (or more). Under the supervision and guidance of a classroom teacher.

Locations Andalucía, Asturias, Aragón, Baleares, Cantabria, Castilla la Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia, La Rioja, Navarra, Madrid, Murcia, País Vasco. Excluidas: Catalonia, Canary Islands and Comunidad Valenciana
The Applicant: Eligibility Be a U.S. citizen. Have English as their first language or be a balanced bilingual. *Be a Junior or Senior College student or have completed a BA. Age limit: 60. Have at least a basic knowledge of Spanish (recommended). *The 2017-2018 edition might include last semester students and graduates from Community Colleges. Duties Work under the supervision and guidance of a classroom teacher. Sports events Work under the supervision and guidance of a classroom teacher. Typical tasks: Conduct conversation lessons. Give presentations in classes. Monitor speaking and group activities. EXTRA-CURRICULAR activities: Music performances School plays Field trips Cultural activities Workshops
Scholarship conditions Duration: 8 months (October 1 – May 31). Paid school vacations: Christmas and Easter. 12 class periods per week. Stipend: € 700 per month. Medical insurance. In Madrid: 9 months (October 1 – June 30) 16 class periods per week €1000 per month
Scholarship conditions The language assistants are responsible for… finding and paying for their accommodation. their flight to Spain.
Scholarship conditions An orientation course in Spain: Functions. Examples of class activities. Administrative matters: Payments. Health coverage. Student ID card. Testimonials and interaction with former assistants. Meetings with American Education Departments and/or Consulates in Spain.
Scholarship conditions Option to renew for a second year. An official certificate upon completion. A seminar for language assistants upon their return: Share their experience. Information on Graduate Studies in related fields. Information on career opportunities in related areas.

Application Process January – April It is FREE to apply. NO application FEES. ONLINE through PROFEX, an online web service application. It requires REGISTRATION. Placements are awarded on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED basis, provided the candidate fulfills the requirements.
Steps in the application (what they can do now) Create their user profile and password in PROFEX. Complete their resume and upload the required documents: Main page of passport. Official college transcript or diploma. Cover letter. Letter of recommendation. Medical certificate (only if they have a European passport).
Steps in the application (once the application period is open) Fill out an application on PROFEX. Choose their three preferred regions in Spain. Submit the application online. Print and mail a signed and dated application to their regional advisor in the USA.
Steps in the application (once their application is admitted) Await placement email from PROFEX. Accept offer within 3 days. Await acceptance letter (hard copy) from the Spanish Region. Apply for a visa.
