Layout Overview HL-LHC Collimators between TAXN and D2 08.09.2011 Layout Overview HL-LHC Collimators between TAXN and D2 Preliminary design studies on TCTPH, TCTPV and TCLx started in EN/MME (L. Gentini) in December A. Bertarelli, L. Gentini EN/MME 67th ColUSM 05.02.2016

TCTPH – Interference in present layout HL-LHC Collimators between TAXN and D2 A. Rossi (BE/ABP) N. Joannon (EN/ACE) A. Bertarelli, L. Gentini EN/MME 67th ColUSM 05.02.2016
Thicker Back-stiffener TCTPH – Slim Jaw Design HL-LHC Collimators between TAXN and D2 Slim jaw design: Thickness optimization of jaw assembly allows saving 10 mm per side, keeping same jaw functionality This translates into a 20 mm reduction of the tank width New design of sliding tables is required (reduced span) Still not enough to cancel off interference (8 mm more to go assuming an “all-embracing” heating jacket) Slim Design Standard Design Axle offset inward 10mm Thicker Back-stiffener A. Bertarelli, L. Gentini EN/MME 67th ColUSM 05.02.2016
TCTPH – “All-embracing jacket” HL-LHC Collimators between TAXN and D2 A. Bertarelli, L. Gentini EN/MME 67th ColUSM 05.02.2016
TCTPV HL-LHC Collimators between TAXN and D2 Longer stroke (40 mm) translates into larger tank (+ 20 mm). This does not appear to be an issue; otherwise, slim jaw design can be adopted keeping present tank width unchanged. New larger bellows required. New sliding table design (different from TCTPH’s) 11 mm interference not yet addressed (e.g. possible piping re-routing?) A. Rossi (BE/ABP) N. Joannon (EN/ACE) A. Bertarelli, L. Gentini EN/MME 67th ColUSM 05.02.2016
TCLX - Interference in present layout HL-LHC Collimators between TAXN and D2 A. Bertarelli, L. Gentini EN/MME 67th ColUSM 05.02.2016
TCLX HL-LHC Collimators between TAXN and D2 Large interference (up to 58 mm) forces to have a 2-in-1 design Preliminary proposal to be further optimized: L. Gentini (EN/MME) A. Bertarelli, L. Gentini EN/MME 67th ColUSM 05.02.2016
Thicker and higher absorbers (40x70) TCLX HL-LHC Collimators between TAXN and D2 Ad-hoc jaw. Structural design to be checked. New sliding table Thicker and higher absorbers (40x70) L. Gentini (EN/MME) A. Bertarelli, L. Gentini EN/MME 67th ColUSM 05.02.2016
