Unit 1 - Old Testament Introduction God's Love Story Unit 1 - Old Testament Introduction

"Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ." ~St. Jerome Class discussion: Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not?

What is the importance of the Old Testament? The Old Testament is the true Word of God in the Old Covenant, which prefigures what was accomplished by Jesus Christ We must read the Old Testament in light of Christ crucified and risen as revealed through salvation history

True Word of God Psalm 119 highlights the importance of God's Word in the lives of his people. Read your group's assigned passage below. Psalm 119:11 Psalm 119:105 Psalm 119:130 From your passage, tell what can God's Word bring or do for those who believe in him? Find two more verses in Psalm 119 that describe God's Word.

Old Covenant Testament means Covenant Sacred agreement What is the difference between a contract and a Covenant? Review on board

Divine Revelation God gradually communicates things hidden about himself and his plan over time The Bible is the written record of God's Revelation Our understanding develops and deepens over time as well Jesus reaffirmed our Revelation of God once and for all. There will be no more revealed to humanity. Pass out sticky notes. Write something you learned the first time, then how you learned more about it later, and how you know more about it now on three separate notes. Example: throwing a ball as a baby, playing catch with a friend, throwing a football in a game Put the first note toward the center of the spiral drawn on the board. The second in the middle. The third on the outside. Explain how our understanding of God grows as we get older and as humanity gets older.

That is why the readings are given the way they are in Mass. First Reading – Old Testament Second Reading – New Testament letters Gospel – Jesus' own words Class Discussion: How does the Mass help us with knowing God?
