School-based Approach in Promoting Disaster Risk Mitigation Disaster Risk Management for Southeast Asian Cultural Heritage Initiative 2017-2022 School-based Approach in Promoting Disaster Risk Mitigation for Cultural Heritage Priority 3 Resiliency in the face of emergencies (e.g., conflicts, extreme weather and natural disasters), preparing schools leaders, teachers and students as well as local communities in managing and maintaining the delivery of education services; Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts (SPAFA)

TYPE/CATEGORY - Research Venue - At least three schools in Southeast Asia which have been suffered from disaster(s) For example: 1. Kampong school(s) in Kampong Ayer, Brunei Darussalam/Malaysia

2. School (s) in Khun Samut Chin Community, Thailand (tbc)

METHODOLOGY School children defined as – - Primary school children - Secondary school children - High school children 2. Teachers and school staff 3. Communities surrounding schools METHODOLOGY Yr.1 Desk-based study using SEAMEO INNOTECH project on Emergency Situations for SE Asian School Heads Yr2. Training school children in selected countries Yr3. Conclusion and re-evaluation (if needed)

EXPECTED OUTPUT SUSTAINABILITY Educational tools on disaster risk preparedness for cultural heritage for schools Hand-on experience on disaster risk mitigation for cultural heritage for selected school children through workshops. Online application on disasters and cultural heritage for school children. SUSTAINABILITY This project will build the fundamental understanding and awareness of children in their cultural heritage as well as the necessity of the protection it from disasters through the distribution of output of this project including educational tools, manuals or guidelines. On the other hand, through this research work schools will play a major role in establishing the connection of education, cultural heritage conservation and disaster risk management network.
