Elizabethan Actors Actors had to memorize lines, sing, dance, wrestle, fence, clown and weep Actors were all male, and young boys usually played female roles as well Actors worked in close proximity to the audience, If the audience didn’t approve of the actors or lines, they would throw food or jeer. Large crowds also attracted pickpockets/women were not allowed to preform because of the scandalous nature of the plays.

The fate of the Globe In 1613 the globe theater roof caught fire during the performance of Henry Vlll and the theater was destroyed but was quickly rebuilt in the same location. Only 30 years later they decided to close the theaters doors and the globe was torn down in 1644 because people thought of it as offensive.

The rebirth of the globe Over 300 years later a new Globe Theater was built only 200 yards away from the original location. The new theater consisted of 3 levels of wooden benches surrounding an open yard and a platform stage. It seats 1,500 theatergoers, fewer than the 3000 that was held in the original theater. Still today they don’t have formal sets, microphones or spotlights inside the Globe Theater
