Genre Drama/ coming of age Drama film is a genre that relies on the emotional and relational development of realistic characters. While Drama film relies heavily on this kind of development, dramatic themes play a large role in the plot as well. Often, these dramatic themes are taken from intense, real life issues. Whether heroes or heroines are facing a conflict from the outside or a conflict within themselves, Drama film aims to tell an honest story of human struggles.

Coming of age… KiDULTHOOD American teen dramas: Mean girls? Twilight? Juno?

Juno analysis Using animation to create an innocent beginning Close up of shoes –introducing character Title alongside character Pan from film Associated guitars, house to other characters Uses birds eye view (variety of camera shots) Actual opening sequence useful in comparison with our piece

Kidulthood analysis White on black title Quick flashes of characters Showing themes Medium shot Handheld Music stops Light humour to soften the story

skins

Ideas from skins… Established characters Shocking/over the top New/modern Different themes Audience are relatable Cinematography Settings New music, related to audience

Initial idea Establishing characters within the beginning Quirky, use camera effects and creative shots Night life – dark low light, flashing lights Party – Blur? People, mess, bass music (Pendulum) Integrated titles - lipstick on the mirror Morning – time lapse sun rise, remembering Non diegetic sound of shop ring Girl in the loo … Pregnancy test (out of shot) “oh shit”
