“At an Odd Time” Exodus 12:29-51 11/21/2010 Dr. Dane Boyles

Exodus 4:22 The Nativity of Israel (12:29-36). 22 “Israel is My son, My firstborn” (Exod. 4:22). The Nativity of Israel (12:29-36). Birthed at Midnight (12:29-32).

Exodus 12:29 29 At midnight the LORD struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well.

Exodus 12:30 30 Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead.

Exodus 12:31-32 31 During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested. 32 Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me.”

“At an Odd Time” The Loot (12:33-36). 33 The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. “For otherwise,” they said, “we will all die!”

Exodus 12:34 34 So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing.

Exodus 12:35 35 The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing.

Exodus 12:36 36 The LORD had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.

Ephesians 4:8 8 This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.”

Acts 3:6 6 …“Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”

“At an Odd Time” The Opening Sketch of Israel (12:37-39). 37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Sukkoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children. 38 Many other people went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds.

Exodus 12:38-39 38 Many other people went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds. 39 With the dough the Israelites had brought from Egypt, they baked loaves of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.

“At an Odd Time” Going past the camp. Heads up. The number of troops.

Isaiah 54:1 1 “Shout for joy, O barren one, you who have borne no child; Break forth into joyful shouting and cry aloud, you who have not travailed; For the sons of the desolate one will be more numerous than the sons of the married woman,” says the Lord.

“At an Odd Time” Israel’s makeup. Rich. Diet of unleavened bread.

“At an Odd Time” 2 “like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation” (1 Pet. 2:2). 6 “Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees” (Matt. 16:6).

“At an Odd Time” 8 Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. (1 Cor. 5:8) 6 a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough (1 Cor. 5:6).
