EN/HE activities for LIU What’s new and action follow up C. Bertone - 17 May 2017

LIU-IONS Studies for LTE line are on good way. New overhead crane designed and ordered (in April 2017) as soon as the budget for the connection was granted) Delivery is foreseen for October 2017 Installation during the L4- PBS connection

LIU-IONS New spreader to be integrated into the bending magnet to allow the installation in the SW (limited lifting height with the new crane) Studies for the dismantling tooling for the other parts of the LTS-LTE lines are on- going: mainly driven by local measurements. If we could have a scan of the mezzanine (in L2), this would permit us to work off-line. It would be a great help Ion dump is SW: handling analysis on-going with RS. Vacuum chamber (75kg!) needs to be removed (but not the magnet). Mainly hand movements (SW is too complex). Not completely satisfactory in terms of safety.

LIU-IONS - Budget Underspending due to internalisation of handling studies via the ‘LIU-fellow’ that has been granted to us in Feb ‘17

LIU-IONS – WU and deliverables 2017 Major spending will be during LS2 for T&H manpower In 2017, the spreader and some tooling in view of the dismantling of the LTE and LTS in L2 + external dump consumables (stripes and so) Expecting some 10-20kCHF of underspending… difficult to predict now

PSB-LIU: IR magnet handling For memory: the handling tooling to be used in the PSB has become very complicated and actually composed into 3 different pieces: The fork The simplified crane The lifting table (one per magnet). All of them have been received, stamped by HSE and tested in real situation

PSB-LIU: IR magnet handling Installation of 4 BSW magnets in the mock up with the complete set of tooling

PSB-LIU-IR: other tooling The simplified crane: Some part have arrived, should be completed by August, but installed not before the connection Handling plates and spreader : delivered, tested and validated Scissor platform, ordered

PSB-LIU: Power converters Temporary reinforcement of the false floor for the Power converters transfer Installation of ‘Sirius 2P’ PC (including spreader procurement) Design of a special handling equipment for the extension: order being released Not included into the original scope of our PSB-LIU (on EPC-LIU bc)

PSB-LIU: others Shaft enlargement B. 245, handling Enlargement done, guardrails modified Cover ordered, to be installed TS2 B. 245, handling Installation of POPS containers Quite less activity than foreseen, most probably carry forward is needed (same message then November)

LIU-PSB: EVM reporting Budget 2017 in CET 301kCHF (static), budget in EVM (updated on reporting): 248kCHF: usual discrepancy

PSB-LIU: WU and deliverables 2017 The underspending (185kCHF in 2017) is driven by the delays in T&H activity in b. 245, that counts for 168kCHF: 84kCHF for handling teams 60kCHF for transport equipment The planning of the activity needs to be reassessed (the APT end is st6ill foreseen in October ‘17) and a part of it to be cf in 2018. I presently cannot answer properly but minimum 50% of it. Some 40-60kCHF will still be spent for tooling in 2017

PS-LIU: studies On-going studies for PS internal dump with G. Romagnoli (STI): Optimization and handling of the shielding vs corridors to let free Support to RF team to implement proper lifting points and removal tablets for the Finemet structure (not meant to be handled with cavities in…. Wise choice?)

PS-LIU: EYETS Consolidation of the PS locomotive: finished Replacement of vacuum pipe of MU41 et MU42: integration concerns? New doors?

PS-LIU: EVM reporting I expect some costs related to handling into the PS plus some small tooling by the end of 2017 AC, vs PV vs EV…are quite in line nothing much to say

PS-LIU: WU and deliverables 2017 Renovation of the PS locative done Overall cost of the project essentially driven by manpower and tooling in LS2 Maybe rework the WUs to avoid progressive ‘EV’ when our work is more peaked in shutdowns

LIU-SPS aC coating: work for EYETS done. Continuation of the studies for LS2 after Return of Experience. First approx. is that we have now all the equipment (ie trailers, handling machines) necessary for this project up to end of LS2 (some tooling may be necessary) BA2 (extraction elements replacement): proposal for minor optimisation of handling material + an action for us: $$ estimation for a test bench. No more advancement. Idem for RF (BA3): since Feb. a fellow working 50% on this to clarify the needs and develop anything necessary. Nonetheless, difficulties to have the relevant infos (ST numbers, integration): will pass at 2nd gear from now. TCDI – TI (paid on TCDI budget): quite detailed study finalised with the collimators in new design (path from surface to installation, machine identification, transport volumes in all positions RA87 handling study). Design of the tooling (spreader + RA88 rail) in 2017-2018. Risk analysis (consequences in case of an accident) on-going with M. Tavlet.

SPS-LIU: new dump in pt5 SBDS Project: ECX 5 crane revamping Crane revamping completed in time Remote control (video and command) implemented Final documentation received (under revision) courtesy of JL Grenard

SPS-LIU: new dump in pt5 (2) SBDS Project : Handling studies Handling procedure of the beam dump and its shielding Support for the procurement process of the shielding blocs 1t crane for the kicker platform study completed, waiting for integration from civil engineering (budget part of kicker system) Check of possible optimization of the transport path reservation done no margin to significantly reduce the actual transport profile Logistics of the elements transferred from BA1to BA5 to be done Additional lifting equipment (ie for MKDH) (budget part of kicker system) to be ordered soon Courtesy of JL Grenard

LIU-SPS – Vehicles Consolidation of PRATT (3t lateral elevator) finished. New PRATT in order and received in 2017 (on HE-Cons) new HUBTEX (7t lateral elevator), financed by LIU, just ordered (2016) received in 2017. Consolidation of old Hubtex 2018 (after the new received and tested) on HE-Cons New low bed trailer for transport contaminated SPS elements during rainy days have been ordered (special code) : arrived in March 2017 (too late for dump), tested in real scale for spare dump

SPS-LIU : EVM situation 267kCHF engaged and 86kCHF spent. 177kCHF (3rd invoice of the ECX5 crane)+ 3,5kCHF to be paid in July 2017. 16,2kCHF handling manpower in December: bringing the cost in 2017 to 283kCHF on 54364. Bringing the total expenditure for the SPS-LIU-SBDF (2016-2017) to 630kCHF to be compared to cumulated PV in APT of 579kCHF (51kCHF of deficit)

SPS-LIU: WU and deliverables 2017 All other deliverables will then be internalised like: Studies: done by LIU fellow and JL Grenard (staff) Remote tooling: cost to be reassessed in association of the handling machine on the kicker platform (not financed yet) but spending will be in 2018

Budget LIU overall Cost variance 152 kCHF Schedule variance -30 kCHF -0.9 months At the end of 2017, you should see: ~ 150kCHF cumulated underspending on PSB-LIU due to bldg. 245 ~ 50kCHF overspending due to ECX5 ~ 20-30kCHF underspending for LIU-ION designer (Fellow LIU) Minor underspending here and there for tooling and manpower

Plan 164 (+ 49 from Nov 2016) received in total for LIU-HE. Our Plan coordinator (S. Pelletier) has analysed them all and found nothing completely unknown. He can cope with these requests however some of them need more studies to evaluate the necessary resources A big lot of work for nothing really new……

Conclusions Big steps in terms of studies in the last 5 months Design is advancing full speed (followed by deliveries), but KA designed at home for 6 months A lot of tools ordered and received All looks on rail and budget variation as described We are increasing the pace for BA2-extraction and BA3-RF however we need more info from the concerned groups so that we can advance Next major T&H studies will be the BA3 RF (cavities + wave guides) and PSB extraction magnets

Thanks for your attention
