Midlothian Council Consultation Options for Lasswade Primary School

Background The population of Bonnyrigg, Lasswade and Rosewell is expanding. The council need to: Add three streams of non-denominational primary school capacity (more than 700 children). Create a sustainable Roman Catholic primary school provision as currently the two Roman Catholic primaries have far fewer pupils than their capacity

(St. Marys & St. Matthews) and one stream non-denominational at Hopefield Provides 1 of the 3 additional streams req’d. Sustainable RC provision 2a. Joint campus Roman Catholics (St. Marys) and one stream non-denominational at Hopefield. Provides 2 of the 3 additional streams req’d. 3a. One stream RC school (St. Mary & Matthews)at Hopefield Does not maximise use of site. Does not provide non-denominational stream. Provides sustainable RC provision 3b. One stream RC school (St. Marys only) at Hopefield site Does not maximise use of site. Does not provide non-denominational stream. St Matthews remains unsuitable 4. Option Notes 12. Create a joint campus in Rosewell for Rosewell and St Matthews RC schools Requires investigation of site and building capacity 13. Two or three stream replacement for Hawthorden Primary school at Hopefield site, including nursery provision Requires review of Hopefield Site Capacity. Hawthornden site could then become available for alternate use once the move takes place 14. St Matthews to remain in existing building Has available RC capacity
