January Monthly Reflection 8th Grade Project: Learning the Flute

Mentor Collaboration I had one lesson with my mentor this month. My mentor and I continued to progress through my book. We worked on my breathing and tone since I am having trouble with these things. We also figured that I had developed a bad habit and my mentor helped me fix it. During my lesson, I was able to learn how to improve my breathing and tone. I also was given new music and duets to practice before the next lesson.

What I learned Since I was struggling with my tone and playing high notes, I learned how to improve my embouchure (the position of my mouth). I learned a new note, high F. I also learned how to move my fingers faster. I learned how play harder and faster music also. In addition to learning new notes and improving my tone, I learned how to play three new scales, C, F, and G.

A change in Plans I have decided to change my end goal for this project. Instead of playing with the band, I am going to play a song that shows off what I learned, and I am going to learn all 12 of the major scales. I decided to change my end goal for this project because the music we are currently playing in band is very complicated; I am not able to learn it in such a short amount of time.

Pages out of the book that I am working on:

Next Month Next month, I want to pick the song that I will be playing for my end of the year presentation. I also want to learn 4 more major scales. I will try to practice at least three times a week and meet with mentor every other week. Also, I want to move forward in my books and try to play more complicated songs. In addition, I want to continue to expand my tone and improve my range.
