Bulletin Boards 101

What is the purpose of a Bulletin Board? Bulletin Boards are a showcase of the work done in the classroom. If done correctly Bulletin Boards can offer meaningful feedback for the student, and teacher, on the learning that has occurred in the classroom and what the next steps are to accomplish the learning goals.

Elements of a Bulletin Board Title Student Task Rubric Process Statement Student work (in progression) Teacher feedback Common Core State Standards Teacher name & Class

Title The title should be catchy and capture the essence of the work being displayed… Examples: What would happen if….. Want to know who I am? GOAAAAALLLLLL!!!!

Student Task The Student Task describes in one sentence what the student will produce at the end of the project or writing process. Example: Students will participate in a Science Experiment and write a Science Experiment Report.

Rubric Rubric should be child friendly where students can refer to it and formulate their goals for the next piece. Examples

Process Statement Process Statement should show the progression of the work in order to accomplish the Student Task. See example…

Student Work Student work should show progression with the writing piece going through the different parts of the Writing Process. The final published piece should be neat and have minimal errors.

Teacher Feedback Teacher feedback must be meaningful, reference not only the current the rubric but also previous feedback given and whether the feedback was accomplished. For example: I like the way you included details in your essay as we spoke about in your Narrative Writing piece. Next time work on adding details that are MOST important to the story, for example tell me about how the food in the story affected the villagers.
