Structure: What is the structure? How obvious do I need to make the signposting? Content: Is there a limit to RLS? How much referencing is required in the essay ? How to link the AOKs and WOKs effectively? How many to include? More about being insightful

Fill in the Outline Step 1. Go to Manage Bac TOK Class> Files> Planning the essay> Essay outline Fill in the Outline Step 1. Why is it important to speak to 3 other people about this title? Share Title Translations back to class so students can pick what title they are interested in.

Develop knowledge questions for exploring essay titles Why is it important to speak to 3 other people about this title?

“No knowledge can be produced by a single way of knowing.” Discuss. What did she include in her KQ to narrow it from the title? To what extent does reason alone produce knowledge in the Human Sciences and in Ethics?

In my opinion, the production of knowledge involves a process of data collection, synthesis, and analysis in order to then form a conclusion (knowledge). In saying that, the quote “no knowledge can be produced by a single way of knowing” claims this process of knowledge production can only be achieved when more than one way of knowing is used. Personally, I would agree that the production of knowledge requires multiple ways of knowing. Although reasoning is the process in which knowledge is produced, other ways of knowing are required in conjunction to gather and analyse information in order for reason to generate new knowledge. This leads me to my knowledge question: to what extent does reason alone produce knowledge in the Human Sciences and in Ethics? What are the criteria of a successful introduction? How did she set the parameters for discussion

Create 3 KQs Steps of the thinking before writing. Next step is to develop a KQ

“No knowledge can be produced by a single way of knowing.” Discuss. I do: How to develop a KQ to the success criteria Is it justifiable to produce knowledge with a single way?

“No knowledge can be produced by a single way of knowing.” Discuss. Can producing knowledge with a single way of knowing justified? Concept Words What I’m looking for (WILF)… Open-ended (using To What Extent, Why, How) Include ‘concept’ words Implies the ‘Knower’ Includes 2 Areas of Knowledge Assumptions Beliefs Classification Generalisations Interpretations Justification Truth Understanding We do: In groups make questions related to this title.

“No knowledge can be produced by a single way of knowing.” Discuss. To meet the next criteria, you can simply add your AOK or compare them. Is it justifiable to produce knowledge with a single way in Religious Systems and History?

Your Turn Concept Words Open-ended (using To What Extent, Why, How) In your Title Groups, develop a Knowledge Question using the criteria below. What I’m looking for (WILF)… Open-ended (using To What Extent, Why, How) Include ‘concept’ words Implies the ‘Knower’ Includes 2 Areas of Knowledge Concept Words Assumptions Beliefs Classification Generalisations Interpretations Justification Truth Understanding You do it together. Resource: Use the KQ Generator on ManageBac if you need some help.

Knowledge Questions Go to Manage Bac TOK Class> Files> Planning the essay> Essay outline Fill in the Outline Step 2 You do it alone

Reflection What steps did you take in your thinking to come up with the KQ? What obstacles did you have/ how did you overcome these? How could you apply these steps in the real essay?

Have a question meeting with Ms Smith. 1) Reflect on ideas incorporated in the brainstorm of the outline 2) Reflect on our Knowledge Question through the PPF Starter: Have a question meeting with Ms Smith. Fill in your PPF on ManageBac answering the following: What steps did you take in your thinking to come up with the KQ? What obstacles did you have/ how did you overcome these? How could you further develop your KQ? What are your next steps forward?

Discusses knowledge (concept words) Claims Counter-claims What I’m Looking for: Discusses knowledge (concept words) Claims Counter-claims Unique real life situations (personal and researched) Connection to TOK vocabulary (AOK & WOK) Then you need to organize your answer to each KQ First, a brief consideration or explanation of the KQ, putting it in the context of the main title. Then, you need to present the argument, which should be justified with evidence and your clearly-expressed opinion. Next, you need to present a counter-claim, which should offer an alternative way of interpreting the KQ, again, with justification. Finally, you need to present a conclusion, where you directly answer your KQ.   To sum up, each KQ should be tackled in four sections: 1. Introduction/explanation of the KI 2. Argument – with justification 3. Counter-claim – with justification 4. Conclusion There should also be an overall conclusion, rounding up your key points, and directly dealing with the actual title of the essay. Theoryofknowledge.net
