Chronology of case : June 12, 1994 Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were stabbed to death. Their bodies found in the front courtyard of the Nicole's condominium in Brentwood. July 22, 1994 O.J. pleaded "absolutely 100 percent not guilty" to the charges. Judge Lance A. Ito assigned to hear case. January 11, 1995 The jury was sequestered. Hearing hold on admissibility of domestic-abuse evidence. January 24, 1995 Trial opened. September 8, 1995 Appeals court rejected September 21, 1995 Simpson said "I did not, could not, and would not have committed this crime." 4

Sept. 26 & 27, 1995 Clark and Darden delivered prosecution's closing arguments. October 2, 1995 After less than four hours, jury announced that it had reached a verdict. October 3, 1995 Jury found O.J. Simpson not guilty of two counts of murder. November 22, 1996 Simpson testified before a jury for the first time. He denied having killed Goldman or his former wife, but couldn't explain the physical evidence against him. January 16, 1997 Both sides rested. Jury had heard 101 witnesses over 41 days of testimony. February 4, 1997 Jury found Simpson liable and awards plaintiffs $8.5 million in in compensatory damages. May 10, 1999 O. J. Simpson and the Browns negotiated a custody arrangement for the two Simpson children 5

Sentence Sentence that the law asks for murder : Capital punishment in California Verdict and Sentence : The jury ordered Simpson to pay compensatory damages of $8.5 million and punitive damages of $25 million.  Under California law, however, Simpson can continue to survive on the $25,000-a-month income from a judgment-proof pension fund. 8
