WELCOME To Econ 1120-Wissink Welcome to (or back to) Ithaca and Cornell. Welcome to Economics 1120: Introductory Macroeconomics–Lecture 1 COURSE SYNOPSIS: This course will introduce you to the basic tools of macroeconomic theory necessary to analyze contemporary economic problems and their proposed solutions. In particular, we will analyze aggregate economic activity in relation to the level, stability, and growth of national income. Topics discussed include the determination and effects of unemployment, inflation, balance of payments, deficits, and economic development, and how these may be influenced by monetary, fiscal and other policies. [Note: Economics 1110 is not a prerequisite for Economics 1120. You can even take BOTH at the same time.] Web address for THIS class: WRITE THIS DOWN https://courses.cit.cornell.edu/econ1120jpw/ Dated announcements for the class: See our Cornell Blackboard site If you have successfully enrolled in the class & a section via Student Center, then you are automatically enrolled on our Blackboard site. If you are currently a "guest" in the class, hoping to get in, then you can access the announcements on Blackboard by going to the site. You will need to search for the site on Blackboard. If you are still not in the class, please come down front and see the Head TA right after class.

Things To Do To Get Started Carefully read and then re-read the syllabus. Tool around the web site. Check out all the links soon! Make note of the dates for the two prelims. Check all your other exam dates and if you see you will have conflicts, read the syllabus for your 1120-Wissink options. Make note of the LAST day of finals and hope for the best. Our final can be late! DO NOT purchase tix or make promises until Cornell posts the final exams schedule. Decide what form of the textbook you plan to use. Get your i>clicker or device “app” and register it via the link on our class Blackboard page. Carefully follow the directions for registering for our MyEconLab site and make sure to use the right info wissink55553 Read all the FAQs on our Blackboard page.

Book Option Ideas Buy a new 12th edition from the bookstore. It will come with a “money” code access card that you use when you sign up for OUR Pearson MEL site using wissink55553 Don’t buy a new 12th edition at the bookstore. Just decide what to buy (with a credit card or PayPal) when you start the process at OUR Pearson MEL site using MEL Quizzes, homework, student resources, but NO eText costs ≈$62 All of the above content PLUS the eText costs ≈$110 You can also upgrade to things using the Pearson site later – check them out You could also just buy the $62 package and find a used book somewhere else. Earlier (and cheaper) editions of the physical text are just fine. Choose what meets your study style and budget best.

Risk To Avoid

How To Beat Intro Macro Come to the lectures and review your notes against my slides. Stay current in the textbook. Do the MyEconLab stuff for starters. Then really test yourself with the Wissink old traditional problem sets and Wissink Econ 1120 sample exams. Do them sincerely. Go for quality over quantity. Use the course Web pages. Use the entire instructional team!! Everyone’s office hours Everyone’s sections Learning Strategies Center’s services Also use the E.T.C. staring in about 10 days Nip problems in the bud. Practice, practice, practice!! Go for active as opposed to passive studying!
