And there’s homework!!!!

Homework - ladies and gents Is there evidence in the representation of sex in the media, arts and culture that some of the competing ancient ideas of sexuality can still be found in society today? Do you think that society today has a healthy attitude to sexuality and relationships in general terms? (See ethics book) How could you back up your views?

Homework – tell me more… Love is…agape, eros, philial, storage Ancient attitudes to sex and marriage Pythagoreans – Cyrenaics - Israelites What is Christian dualism… Who were the Greek Stoics… Research and make notes on the Wolfenden Report on Homosexuality.

Essay question Assess the view that any type of sexual behaviour is acceptable as long as it is between consenting adults [20]

Gareth Moore (1998) In the past religious authorities…the purpose of sex was for bringing children into the world… sexual activity not about reproduction was wrong. He writes, ‘Masturbation, contraception, bestiality and anal and oral sex were all contrary to God’s will’.

‘But now things have changed… not just in Christian ethics, but in all religious ethics…in the west there is a wide sense of discontentment with traditional religious sexual ethics’. (Moore 1998) What do you think?

Examiners tip When citing what a particular religion says about the matter, always ground the view in either scriptural text or teaching from a religious institution.
