Directions for the teacher Each slide contains it’s own separate 20 minute lesson. Each one is a simple, student driven activity. Think “point & shoot”. You may: choose one slide to present to the class for a whole class assignment. OR share the entire slideshow with the class; each student chooses their own activity. High interest activities & autonomy often increase engagement :) The completed assignment could be the student’s EXIT ticket. Please DELETE THIS SLIDE FROM YOUR SLIDESHOW IF YOU CHOOSE TO SHARE IT WITH YOUR CLASS.

PREVIEW - Each slide has icons about the activity indicating the best mode for that particular activity. If the slide has more than one of these icons this indicates that either mode is appropriate or that both items are needed. Technology required ( a chromebook / phone) Paper & pencil only Independent assignment Small groups or collaborative work

Look up the definition of resilience. Create a thinking map for Resilience. Resilience should be written in the middle with what it "Looks Like" - actions on the top and what it "Sounds Like" phrases below. Write a short summary paragraph at the bottom explaining why Resilience is important. See the “Perseverance” thinking map as a sample and follow the same overall pattern.

Resilience Meme Find one or two memes about resilience that resonate with you copy them into a google doc . Share briefly (4-6 sentences) why you chose this/these particular meme(s) and what it means to you. Meme Sample:

Review the article below. Choose one athlete to focus on Review the article below. Choose one athlete to focus on.Think about how that individual overcame personal challenges to reach the top of his/her sport. If you are working in a group - discuss the person and their story. Explain how the players showed resilience. If you are working alone - write a brief paragraph or 3 bullet points about: the person, their challenges and their achievements. http://www.sportsbreak.com/sports/11-athletes-who-overcame- adversity/?streamview=all

Create a mosaic of pictures that exemplify resilience Create a mosaic of pictures that exemplify resilience. Use no less than 6 pictures and no more than 20. You can do this by hand OR digitally. You can create a google doc. and add images or use google drawings. Make sure any/all images are appropriate for your audience ( a classroom setting) .

Watch the short 3 minute video. Then, list 5-7 bullets discussing resilience related to what you learn from the video. _______________________________ Consider the following: Predict how Rory might show resilience ? What support/ resources can she use ? What history does she have to reflect on to help her remember that she is able to succeed ? What attitudes help her respond to the situation?

Share out: Resilience Ownership Achievement Respect In the final 3 to 5 minutes of class: Allow time for post activity reflection and sharing. This can be done in a small group, with a partner or as a class discussion. Resilience Ownership Achievement Respect
